1. What is Download Accelerator Plus?
Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) is the leading download acceleration
software. DAP is fully integrated into the browser and may speed
up your downloads by up to 300% (according to users and websites
reviews). DAP's key features include the ability to accelerate downloading
of files in FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols, to pause and resume downloads,
and to recover from dropped internet connections. DAP is compatible
with ANY Internet connection (dial-up, cable, DSL / ADSL, T1 etc.)
and assures that users get maximum performance from available bandwidth.
2. What is the Mirror Search feature?
On the Internet the same file is often hosted on numerous mirror
sites, such as at universities and on ISP servers. When a user begins
downloading a file, DAP immediately senses it and the Mirror Search
feature initiates a search for mirror sites that may host the requested
file.
3. How does Download Accelerator Plus accelerate
the delivery of files?
DAP acceleration is achieved by two factors: locating the most responsive
servers from which the file will be downloaded, and by implementing
multi-connection downloading from those servers.
- Downloading from the most responsive servers - DAP executes
a proximity check to determine which of the available mirror sites
are most responsive in relation to the specific user's location.
The file is then downloaded from the most responsive server(s).
- Multi-connection downloading - the file is downloaded in several
segments through multiple connections and reassembled at the user's
PC. This results in better utilization of the user's available
bandwidth.
4. How do I use Download Accelerator Plus?
After you install Download Accelerator Plus, it will automatically
activate itself when you download files. DAP is configured to be
triggered by the most common file types (EXE, ZIP, MP3, ARJ, RAR,
LZH, Z, GZ, GZIP, TAR, BIN, MP3, AVI, MPG) and additional extensions
may be added through the "Option/Configuration" screen
under the "General" section.
5. What happens if I lose my connection to a
server?
When a connection is dropped due to poor network conditions, electrical
breakdown or any other reason, Download Accelerator Plus will be
able to resume the download (when the server supports Resume functionality).
See question 13: How do I resume my downloads?
6. Why can't I accelerate or resume some of
my downloads?
The Acceleration and Resume features are enabled only downloading
a file from a server that supports resume. Most servers on the Internet
support resumeable downloads, but some may not.
Another possible reason is the use of a proxy server, this may also
influence the resume functionality. If you are using a proxy and
do not have Resume functionality, please consult our support team
(link to email).
7. What is AlwaysResume service and how do
I use it?
Resume functionality is enabled by various download managers (including
DAP), depending on the source server configuration and network conditions.
When servers support Resume, this feature allows continuation of
an uncompleted download from the point where it was interrupted.
When the Resume functionality is not supported or enabled, interrupted
downloads cannot be continued (resumed) and must be restarted all
over again. DAP's AlwaysResume service allows users to ALWAYS benefit
from the resume functionality, EVEN when source servers do not support
resume.

the Always Resume Service
8. Does Download Accelerator Plus support proxy
servers?
Yes. Download Accelerator Plus supports HTTP and FTP proxies. To
configure DAP to work with a proxy, please go to the "Proxy/Firewall"
page in the "Configuration Screen". Please note that some
old proxy servers will not support the resume and the accelerate
features. Note: If your proxy requires username/password please
fill it in.
9. What browsers does Download Accelerator Plus
support?
Download Accelerator Plus supports all leading browsers, including:
Internet Explorer 4.x / 5.x / 6.x, Netscape 4.x / 6.x and Opera
4 / 5 / 6, but some of it's features ( i.e DAP's toolbar) only works
in Internet Explorer 4 and above.
10. How can I customize Download Accelerator
Plus settings?
Download Accelerator Plus setting may be customized through the
"Configuration" screen, under the "Downloads->Option/Configuration"
menu. Customizable settings are listed in 4 sections: General, Connection,
Proxy/Firewall and Advanced. More info about each setting can be
found in the Help screens.
11. How can I setup the new version to be similar
to version 3.5?
The latest version of Download Accelerator Plus has now many great
new features that will better accelerate your downloads than did
earlier versions. However, if you wish to setup it as the old version
(3.5), open the "Configuration" screen, and click on the
"Advanced setting". Select "Ask the user what he
would like to do" for the first section, and also check all
the other options on this page. Note that by selecting all these
options you may lose some of DAP 5.0's great features (such as Mirror
Searching).
12. How can I uninstall Download Accelerator
Plus?
To uninstall Download Accelerator Plus, either use the Uninstall
utility under DAP's program group in the Start menu, or the Windows
Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" utility. The change
will take effect after you restart your browser. NOTE: Please
make sure to exit Download Accelerator Plus before starting the
uninstall operation.
13. How do I resume my downloads?
In order to resume an uncompleted download, choose the file from
the file list and click on the "Resume" button. Alternatively,
you may simply double-click on a file. If the download does not
continue, please see question 6: "Why can't I accelerate or
resume some of my downloads?"
14. How do I drag & drop files into Download
Accelerator Plus?
Under the "Downloads" menu, choose "Download Basket".
A small window will pop up at the top of you screen and will remain
there as long as DAP is active. At any time you can DRAG a file
link from your browser to this "Download Basket". URLs
may be also inserted by using the "Add URL" button (allows
to type or paste the URL manually).
15. What is the "Details" button
in the download window?
By clicking on the "Details" button, you are provided
with more information regarding the download process, listing the
various connections through which the file segments are being downloaded.
16. Why Isn't The Download Accelerator Plus
triggered by the Browser?
If you are using any other download manger that also integrates
into the browser, it might interfere with integration of the Download
Accelerator Plus. To re-enable the triggering/integration of Download
Accelerator Plus, open the "Option/Configuration" screen,
and in the "General" section 'check' the "Browser
Integration" option and then restart the browser.
17. How can I temporarily disable Download
Accelerator Plus?
Press the ALT key (while clicking on a hyperlink) in order to temporarily
disable the browser integration of Download Accelerator Plus.
18. How I can download files whose extensions
are not in the DAP configuration?
Press the ALT and CTRL keys together (while clicking on a hyperlink)
in order to download any file with extensions other than those listed
in DAP's configuration. You may add any file type to the extensions
list in the "Option/Configuration" screen under the "General"
section.
19. How to integrate DAP into the Mozilla browser
?
- Copy the file 'dapop.dll' from 'DAP' folder (C:\Program
Files\DAP) into the 'Plug-Ins' folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Plug-Ins)
- Rename the copied file from 'dapop.dll' to 'npdap.dll'
Your DAP is now integrated into the Mozilla browser.
