When downloaded files are being completed, they vanish from the list. Where did my files go?

Unlike earlier versions of Download Accelerator Plus, DAP 8 and above, separates the download list, from the completed downloads list, into two different tabs. This change allows convenient usage of DAP while downloading many files simultaneously and also helps keep your list clean and uncluttered. When a download is completed, the file automatically moves to the Completed Downloads tab. To sort and filter your download list even more, use the Filter Pane (see next question).
If you prefer the old "completed files on the bottom" view better, simply check "view completed items in main screen" from the View menu.

I have a very long downloads list. Is there a way to sort or filter the files for easier view?

Yes there is! First of all, in the Downloads tab, you may click on any of the table column names (status, file name, progress, etc.) to sort the list according to that column (one click for ascending sort, another click for descending sort). But if you really want clear your view, you can activate the Filter Paneby clicking "View" menu -> Filter Pane. When choosing a category in the Filter Pane, the Download screen will show just the files from that category only, while filtering everything. You can sort files by Status (Downloading, Queued, Paused, Scheduled, Excluded and Broken) or by Category (Software, Music, Movies, Images & Documents). Click "all" anytime, to get back a complete view of all files.

Why doesn't Download Accelerator Plus trigger some of the downloads from the MoZilla/FireFox browser?

As DAP can not auto trigger all file types from the Mozilla browser you may use the "Download Basket" of DAP in order to drag links from the Mozilla browser into it so that DAP will be used to make the downloads. The "Download Basket" is located under the "Tools" menu of DAP.
TIP: Make sure your DAP is set up for integration with Mozilla/FireFox - open DAP, click the "Tools" menu -> "Options", enter "General" on the screen that you get and make sure the Mozilla/FireFox browser integration is checked.

How can I temporarily disable Download Accelerator Plus?

For better control over downloads (using the Internet Explorer browser) you may set the option "Show 'Regular'/'Accelerated' option" under the "General" configuration of DAP. Once clicking a file to download from a site you will be presented with an option box to choose between 'Regular' and 'Accelerated', by clicking on the 'Regular' button DAP will be disabled and will not trigger the download, and by clicking the 'Accelerated' button DAP will trigger and download the file.

Another way is to right click the icon of DAP in the system tray and choose "Disable downloads by DAP".

For any other browsers you can open DAP, click the "Tools" menu -> "Options", enter "General" on the screen that you get and unset the browser integration for the browser you are using.

TIP: To temporarily bypass DAP, simply hold the ALT key while clicking the download link in the browser.

What is Download Accelerator Plus?

Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) is the leading download acceleration software. DAP is fully integrated into the browser and may speed up your downloads by up to 400% (according to users and websites reviews). DAP's key features include the ability to accelerate downloading of files in FTP and HTTP protocols, to pause and resume downloads, and to recover from dropped internet connections. DAP is compatible with ANY Internet connection (dial-up, cable, DSL / ADSL, T1 etc.) and assures that users get maximum performance from available bandwidth.

What is the Mirror Search feature?

On the Internet the same file is often hosted on numerous mirror sites, such as at universities and on ISP servers. When a user begins downloading a file, DAP immediately senses it and the Mirror Search feature initiates a search for mirror sites that may host the requested file.

Back To Top Back To Top

How does Download Accelerator Plus accelerate the delivery of files?

DAP acceleration is achieved by two factors: locating the most responsive servers from which the file will be downloaded, and by implementing multi-connection downloading from those servers.
Downloading from the most responsive servers - DAP executes a proximity check to determine which of the available mirror sites are most responsive in relation to the specific user's location.
The file is then downloaded from the most responsive server(s).
Multi-connection downloading - the file is downloaded in several segments through multiple connections and reassembled at the user's PC. This results in better utilization of the user's available bandwidth.

How do I use Download Accelerator Plus?

After you install Download Accelerator Plus, it will automatically activate itself when you download files from internet sites that you enter using your browser. DAP is configured to be triggered by the most common file types (EXE, ZIP, MP3, ARJ, RAR, LZH, Z, GZ, GZIP, TAR, BIN, MP3, AVI, MPG) and additional extensions may be added through the "Options" screen under the "General" section.

What happens if I lose my connection to a server?

When a connection is dropped due to poor network conditions, electrical breakdown or any other reason, Download Accelerator Plus will be able to resume the download (when the server supports Resume functionality).

Back To Top Back To Top

Why can't DAP resume some of the downloads?

The Resume feature is enabled only when downloading a file from a server that supports resume. Most servers on the Internet support resumeable downloads, but some may not.
Another possible reason is the use of a proxy server; this may also influence the resume functionality. If you are using a proxy and do not have Resume functionality, please consult our support team ([email protected]).
DAP users who subscribe to the AlwaysResume service, can enjoy the benefits of the AlwaysResume feature (see next question).

Back To Top Back To Top

What is AlwaysResume service and how do I use it?

Resume functionality is enabled by various download managers (including DAP), depending on the source server configuration and network conditions. When servers support Resume, this feature allows continuation of an uncompleted download from the point where it was interrupted. When the Resume functionality is not supported or enabled, interrupted downloads cannot be continued (resumed) and must be restarted all over again.
DAP's AlwaysResume service allows users to ALWAYS benefit from the resume functionality, EVEN when source servers do not support resume.

Does Download Accelerator Plus support proxy servers?

Yes. Download Accelerator Plus supports HTTP and FTP proxies. To configure DAP to work with a proxy, please go to the "Proxy/Firewall" page in the "Options" screen. Please note that some old proxy servers will not support the resume and the accelerate features. Note: If your proxy requires username/password please fill it in.

Why isn't the Download Accelerator Plus triggered by the Browser?

If you are using any other download manger that also integrates into the browser, it might interfere with integration of the Download Accelerator Plus.
To re-enable the triggering/integration of Download Accelerator Plus, open DAP, click the "Tools" menu -> "Options", enter "Connection" on the screen that you get and set your browser integration and then restart the browser. Also check, on the same screen, to see if DAP is checked as your Default Download Manager.
If for some reason you disabled dap (by choosing either the "Disable downloads by DAP" or the "Exit and Disable downloads by DAP" from the taskbar menu, you may enable triggering again, simply by right clicking the taskbar DAP icon, and choosing "Enable downloads by DAP (Acceleration On).

How can I download files whose extensions are not in the Download Accelerator Plus configuration?

Press the ALT and CTRL keys together (while clicking on a hyperlink) in order to download any file with extensions other than those listed in DAP's configuration. You may add any file type to the extensions list in the "Options" screen under the "General" section.
Another way is to right click a download link on a web page and choose "Download with DAP" on that menu that appears. These options are only relevant when using Internet Explorer.

I am sharing my computer with other users and my privacy is very important to me. Does DAP allow me to keep my privacy, regarding my downloaded files?

Yes! DAP has specific privacy features for these exact purposes. Clean Traces is a feature that eliminates any evidence of downloading a file. Shredder allows the user to delete the file, it's recycle bin copy and all the download traces, in one single click. Read the next two questions to learn more about these features.

Back To Top Back To Top

What does Shredder do? Is it the same as Delete?

Shredder is a new feature from version 8 and up. It is a special kind of DELETE tool. When you Shred a file, it not only deletes it, but also make sure there's no copy in the recycle bin or any other temporary folder. It is advised to use discretion when Shredding file, as there's really no way to undo it. Shredder is recommended when complete discretion & privacy are important.
There are two ways to use the Shredder:
  1. On DAP main windows, go the Completed Downloads tab and highlight one file or more. Press the Shred button (located on the upper part of the window) and click "yes" on the Confirm Shred window.
  2. You can use the Shredder tool from outside DAP, anywhere on your computer. Simply right-click on any file or folder and choose Shred from the menu. Click "yes" to confirm. TIP: You can use this method to Shred ANY file or folder, even if it wasn't acquired by DAP.

I deleted a file from the Completed Downloads window - butj it still appears in the History page.
Also, if I click on the download URL again, DAP asks me if I want to re-Download the file.
Isn't there a way to eliminate all the download information, like the "clean history" in the Internet browser?

DAP has a privacy feature just like that, from ver 8 and up, called Clean Traces. It deletes the file record from both the Completed Downloads pane and from the history page. After cleaning traces, when reloading a file, DAP will not prompt the "Re-Download" window and treat this as a new download.
NOTE: Clean traces will NOT delete the file itself. To do that you can Delete the file or Shred it (see previous question).
To use Clean Traces, click the Completed Downloads tab in the main DAP window. Highlight one file or more, and click the Clean Traces button (located on the upper part of the window) and click "yes" to confirm.
